Friday Finds: Vacu Vin Pineapple Slicer

January 21, 2011

Can your chef’s knife core, peel and slice a pineapple effortlessly? This week’s Friday Find is not a gluten-free product per say but a very useful tool for any gluten-free kitchen. I really enjoy using fresh pineapple in recipes, but it is a pain to peel, core and slice them. Most of the time I feel like a  lot of the pineapple goes to waste in an effort to not chop of my fingers in the slicing process. The Vacu Vin Pineapple Slicer makes this task easy, maximizes your fruit yield and leaves you with beautiful ribbons of delicious pineapple.

I rarely purchase kitchen tools like this that I perceive to be a gimmick. Usually they are let down and hardly a match for our amazing shun knives. The Vacu Vin Pineapple Slicer arrived last week, a gift from Uncle Philip who is on a mission to educate the world about this fabulous new gadget.  Looking to buy your own, the Vacu Vin can be found on Amazon for a mere $9.27. I highly recommend this purchase. A little extra pineapple in meals and for snack in the dead of winter can only be a good thing.

What is your favorite kitchen gadget? Did you buy it for yourself or was it a quirky gift that turned out to be fabulous?
